Wall anchors
Use a wall anchor when you need to fasten into a wall surface but there is no stud behind it, or when fastening into masonry or concrete. The correct anchor depends on wall material and load requirements.
| Anchor type | Best for | Typical load |
|---|---|---|
| Plastic expansion anchors | Masonry, concrete, tile | 10–50 lbs |
| Toggle bolts | Drywall, plaster hollow walls | 50–300 lbs |
General guidance
- Always prefer fastening into a stud over using an anchor when loads exceed 20 lbs.
- Anchor ratings are for shear (perpendicular to wall). Direct pull-out ratings are lower.
- Never exceed the anchor's rated load. Use multiple anchors and spread the load for heavy items.
